Abu dhabi: President Lee Jae Myung and the president of the United Arab Emirates engaged in a phone conversation on Tuesday, agreeing to enhance their countries' cooperation in advanced technology sectors, energy, and defense industries, the presidential office announced. This marked their first dialogue since President Lee assumed office last month.
According to Yonhap News Agency, President Lee expressed his desire to further the Special Strategic Partnership, established between South Korea and the UAE in 2018, during his conversation with President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung noted in a written briefing that both leaders emphasized the importance of expanding their collaboration into "strategic and future-oriented areas."
The discussion highlighted specific areas for strengthening cooperation, including artificial intelligence, advanced technologies, the defense and arms industries, and nuclear power. Both leaders acknowledged the potential benefits of such collaboration and agreed to pursue these strategic sectors actively.
Additionally, the leaders expressed their intention to meet in person at upcoming diplomatic events, such as the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit scheduled to take place in Gyeongju, South Korea, later this year. This meeting is expected to provide an opportunity for further discussions on enhancing bilateral ties and exploring new avenues of cooperation.
