Navy Chiefs of South Korea and Ecuador Discuss Strengthening Cooperation

Gyeryong: The top naval commanders of South Korea and Ecuador held talks to discuss ways to expand military and arms industry cooperation, the Navy said.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Yang Yong-mo met his Ecuadorian counterpart, Miguel Santiago Cordova Chehab, at the Navy's headquarters for discussions on bilateral cooperation. The meeting took place approximately 140 kilometers south of Seoul.

The discussions included increasing personnel exchanges and warship port visits, and culminated in the signing of a memorandum of understanding for the navies to hold regular talks. Cordova is scheduled to attend a ceremony for the transfer of a 3,000-ton Coast Guard patrol vessel to the Ecuadorian Navy. The event will take place at a shipyard in Mokpo, located about 310 kilometers south of Seoul.

The government had announced the previous year that it would donate the ship, which has been renamed the Jambeli.
