North Korea and Russia Commence Construction of Road Bridge Across Tumen River to Enhance Economic Ties

Rason: North Korea announced on Thursday the commencement of the construction of a road bridge linking North Korea and Russia across the Tumen River, which is expected to significantly enhance economic cooperation between the two countries.

According to Yonhap News Agency, a simultaneous ceremony was held in the border cities of Rason, North Korea, and Khasan, Russia, on Wednesday to officially launch the construction of the motor bridge. This development follows an agreement made in June of the previous year, where North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and Russian President Vladimir Putin committed to building the bridge as part of a comprehensive strategic partnership treaty aimed at strengthening cooperation.

The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported that the construction will establish crucial infrastructure for economic cooperation, facilitating the movement of people, tourism, and the circulation of goods. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2026 and will play a vital role in boosting bilateral cooperation in multiple sectors.

The ceremony was attended via video link by North Korean Premier Pak Thae-song and Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin. Premier Pak expressed confidence that the bridge would create a lasting foundation for the strategic partnership between the two nations, marking a new phase of development.

The planned 850-meter road bridge is anticipated to enhance the flow of goods and travelers, supporting ongoing efforts to strengthen ties in various sectors, including military and economic collaboration.
