Seoul: The floor leader of the ruling People Power Party has emphasized the necessity of amending the nation's Constitution to decentralize presidential and parliamentary power, along with calling for an extra budget to support economic growth.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Rep. Kweon Seong-dong, in his parliamentary speech, expressed conviction that constitutional reform is crucial to resolving the current political crisis. He advocated for a system that decentralizes the power of an imperial president and limits the authority of an imperial parliament.
Kweon also called for electoral reforms, including the restructuring of electoral districts, even if it means shortening the terms of current representatives.
On the matter of a supplementary budget, Kweon highlighted the need to reverse and supplement the budget cuts initiated unilaterally by the Democratic Party. He emphasized that any discussions on an extra budget must be guided by a clear set of principles and direction.
Kweon proposed that the extra budget should target economic stimulation, support for vulnerable groups, and enhancement of trade competitiveness, particularly in the artificial intelligence sector, rather than focusing on increasing the issuance of local currency vouchers-a policy pursued by the Democratic Party's leader, Lee Jae-myung.
Additionally, Kweon urged the passage of a special bill within the month that would exempt semiconductor workers from the country's 52-hour workweek system.
